HIGHLAND ACADEMY PTSO BOARD

SHELLY MORGAN

President

"I’m looking forward to a great year, with great people and fun activities for our students!"

BIO

I'm super excited to work as President of the Highland Academy PTSO, with an incredible team of parents ready to make great things happen for our school! My son, Robert started Highland Academy as a 6th grader in 2016. Since 2010, I have worked as the K-12 Specialist with the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, connecting with students, educators, campuses, community organizations, and volunteers across the state to help 2nd-8th grade students dream for their future and take early steps in college and career planning. Prior to this, I have worked as a Legislative Staffer, field biologist, and community organizer. Before Robert became a student at Highland, I helped re-activate a dormant PTA, and spent three years working as VP of Fundraising, VP of Special Projects, and Government Relations Liaison for Susitna Elementary PTA. I look forward to growing with Highland and furthering relationships with Highland families and staff over the years to come! In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, camping, and enjoying our beautiful state! I look forward to working with and getting to know you!

PHILIPPE DAMERVAL

Vice President

"It feels really great to be involved in everything the PTSO is poised to accomplish this year!

BIO

I am thrilled to be doing my bit to support the very special school that is Highland Academy. My son Bernard "Bear" Damerval started Highland as a 9th grader in 2016. I have been a systems analyst for the State of Alaska since 2005, before which I worked for an IT firm in Juneau, and before that I hailed from beautiful France. I have been on the boards of PTA or PTSO organizations since my son was in 2nd grade. I originally trained as a teacher and enjoy supporting the great team of educators we have here at Highland. In my spare time I enjoy reading a good book or going to the theatre, either with my son or to see him starring in a show! I look forward to helping develop our school's esprit de corps by  participating in the organization and implementation of activities and adventures involving our parents, our staff and our student body.

BIO

I was one of the founders of Highland Academy’s PTSO and I’m trilled to be the Treasurer again this year with the great group of parents who make up the rest of the board.  My son Robert started as a 6th grader in 2013 and is a very active member of the school.  I earned my Master’s of Public Administration so I could help out non-profit organizations.  I currently work as the Registrar/Program Assistant at Boy Scouts of America, District of Alaska office.  Part of my job is to help scouts and leaders with their registration and training.  I previously worked as a Paralegal at a local law firm and served 20 years in the US Navy. I enjoy scrapbooking, spending time with my family and love living in Alaska!  I can’t wait to see everyone at the activities the PTSO will be doing.  There should be lots of fun to be had by all.

I am excited to get my feet wet as the secretary of Highland Academy's PTSO this year.  My son, Caden, began at Highland as a 6th grader in 2012.  I am originally from Idaho, but have lived all over the world.  When I got married in 1998, my husband's job took us from Idaho to Guam, then to Italy, and finally to Anchorage.  I have been an elementary school teacher in the Anchorage School District since 2009.  In my spare time, I love reading and enjoying time with my family.  I absolutely love Highland Academy: its values, educators, students, and commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment!

BIO

I’m a 10th grade student who has been going to Highland Academy since I was a sixth grader.  I have been doing my part to try and make the school better for the students since I started here in 2013.  I also have given tours of the school to perspective students and their families for many years.  I enjoying playing D&D and video games with my friends but my passion is with theater and being in plays.  I began acting when we lived in Ketchikan and continued when we moved to Anchorage with TBA.  I have been in several shows during the summer and also two shows during the regular season.  I’m ready for another year of working with the PTSO as the Student Rep.
